Sorry for the inconvenience! I have had it with the host company with their frequent down times and slow reloading! If you are ever looking for a host server, stay away from VIZAWEB! They are unreliable and have very poor crappy service. I'm even thinking of switching to a different host but we have already paid them for a full year, BIG MISTAKE! Thanks for the patience and all the support!

It's still running/loading slowly for me. Pete - please back up the forum if you can, now that it is up again, just in case! I know - extra work for you, I appreciate all you do!!

Sorry folks - I tried to email as many of you as I had contact info for!

Yes, I already have backed up the DBs and as soon as we get enough donation for the site/maintenance funds, I'll look for a different host company and switch over! I'm so tired of their poor service, frequent downtimes and slow loading. We signed up with them in July and we have had nothing problems ever since and it seems like the problems are now everyday occurances which to me is totally unacceptable! And as usual, no apologies or any kind of response from them.

Will you lose $$$ if you switch over now or would you be able to get some kind of refund?

Regardless, I am now going to the contribution link. 8)

Thanks! Yes, we would lose money if we move to a different host. We paid Vizaweb a full year beginning from July 05 and I really doubt that they will refund our money, I dont see that happening. Very frustrating to deal with such incompetent people/company!

Thanks, Marcus! :D

Does anyone know of a good and reliable host server? Any recommendations? There are tons out there but I don't want us to end up with another "VIZAWEB" and regret. Thanks!

I haven't posted yet, so hi everyone. I'm the webmaster for my own site and society site and have used ipowerweb.com for years. They are cheap, reliable and I don't think the sites have ever been down!! Good luck, but it may be worth it just to bite the bullet and wait until the year is up.

Hi, Candace!

I came across Ipowerweb earlier this morning when I did a search for host servers! Thanks and I will check them out once again and they did look promising.

I use a service called Affordablehost.com Which has, I think, been purchased by a Canadian firm. But regardless, they are pretty good. I had a few problems once (my own damn fault), and was frustrated that I couldn't get through to anybody. But that turned out to be the week that the company changed hands, and I was suitably mollified by the tech support staff. And it was my fault, anyway... *grin*

This is what I received from Vizaweb in regards to the down time.
Dear Peter,

Just wanted to drop everyone an email in regards to the frequent
outages this past couple of days. We have identified the root cause and
fixed the problem.

There was an open port on the server that was allowing massive amounts
of spam email to the tune of 3000 per hour to be relayed through the
server. Most of these messages were being rejected by the recipiencts so
they were being held up in the mail queue. When the mail queue ran,
mysql and other services failed.

We have fixed this problem by installing a very strong firewall on the
server and have successfully blocked all known IPs that the messages
were coming from. We will be actively monitoring the mail queue over the
next couple days to ensure that all IPs were successfully blocked.

I want to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank everyone
for their patience while we correct the issue. If you have any
additional questions or concerns, please send an email to support@vizaweb.com.
Please do not reply directly to this message.

Thank you,
Rick Mueller
President and Co-Founder
VizaWeb Inc.

I have just emailed them and asked for a refund should we decide to switch to a different host but I really doubt they will refund us anything at all! We signed up with them back in July and hope they would at least refund a part of the payment! Thank you all for the great support!

The only thing it explains is incompetance. To have an open relay running for as long as we have been seeing problems (assuming it is the same problem the whole time) is criminal negligence... I'd look around for a service that has a competant system administrator (or 20) running the show.

I agree with that - I was a bit worried that TS Katrina had affected "things"

Yes, that is nothing but just a very poor excuse. I'm still experiencing slow reloading and time outs from time to time.
