:?: We had a thread a few weeks ago about a cooperative effoft on Kovachii flasks from Peruflora. Ashipment came in to Miami earlier this week, both hybrid and species. Small plants and the 20 month agreement was part of the deal. Does anyone know if our group flasks were in this shipment?
Thanks
John

Well, Steve was the last one who spoke up about placing the order, but he mentioned he was not looking to import it from Peruflora, but find a domestic source.
I've since PM'd another member with an import permit about bringing in a flask....

Marcus and I have been discussing an importation among members. I have sent to Peru-Flora to see what they have right now. I have also sent my intention to the good folks who issued my import permit to make sure there are no issues. Based on the cost of the flask $1100 for about 50 seedlings plus Peru-Flora paperwork - they say it is about $160 to get their export paperwork together, plus shipping, then shipping to folks here who want them, we are talking about $35 per seedling or so. If people are interested, please send ms privately. If enough are interested and they are available now, then I will order. I assume there will be no hitches with importation since I have a license and they are shipping to others in the US - on their website they have a partial list of recipients.
Thx

The previous posts about getting a flask and CITES requirements begs a few questions though and things to consider, Ron.
If the flasks come with the 20 month distribution contract, will those that join in the process need to wait the 20 months? I assume so and that's not a problem for me.
Secondly, what form of proof of legal importation documents will be provided when the seedlings are distributed? I'm not sure the cost of copying documents is considered in your estimates of cost and probably should be. I'm not even sure a 'copy' of a flask importation certificate is enough in this instance.
Interesting dilemma, isn't it? Species flasks don't need CITES normally but every seedling removed from flask does. The kovachii is special and every seedling identifiable as a kovachii requires an official documentation trail back to legal acquisition.

Hi, Ernie,
Yes, you are correct about the documentation. That is part of the query I have in with the Import folks. If required it should not be an issue since I am close by the local office (I work in Secaucus, they have an office in Hoboken a few blocks away) so cost is nil - they dont charge for hobbyists like myself if you come in person, only companies. As for the distribution, I am confirming Peru-Flora but initial feedback is that this may not be a problem. I am informed that the seedlings are too young right now to readily deflask and assure survival, so "hand-carrying" has been recommended. I am also determining potential in-person visits to the US where such hand-off could occur. I have done this with Ecuagenera in the past - they are in the US often and will bring stuff through customs, then hand-off to the customer here.
