Paphgirl March 19th, 2005, 07:40 PM Congratulations Ray, I think both your plants had ribbons! :joy:
Your esq. was very nice, my photo didn't capture it well and your Pinocchio - the hybrid I photographed? That was very cute, I like how the petals really swept backwards. Very nice and good growing!
Have fun tomorrow!
fred March 19th, 2005, 07:55 PM Thanks so much Heather it was quite a surprise to see my plants on line like that. I hope there are some good plants left to buy. Glen Decker always has great plants. I grow Phals also and I have never seen what The Orchid Phile has to offer. Ray
Paphraguy March 19th, 2005, 07:58 PM Congrats, Ray! :joy: Beautiful esq you have there!
Paphgirl March 19th, 2005, 07:59 PM Thanks so much Heather it was quite a surprise to see my plants on line like that. I hope there are some good plants left to buy. Glen Decker always has great plants. I grow Phals also and I have never seen what The Orchid Phile has to offer. Ray
Hope you don't mind! Now you're famous!
Glen indeed has nice plants, I bought a big supardii from him but that was it.
If I recall correctly, OrchidPhile had lots of nice Phals - a lot of Mini Mark 'Holm's which were cute. I have one in bud, so it was nice to see what it will look like, gee they really are tiny!
Rob March 26th, 2005, 07:10 PM The grex for that roth was Mt Millias x Rex and had a 28 cm natural spread and grat petal orientation certainly in the awardable range. I think I ran the green house too cool and too bright resulting in a congested spike that the judges didn't like that. Maybe next time
Rob
Paphgirl March 26th, 2005, 07:21 PM Hi Rob! Welcome! Your's was the first roth I've seen in person and I very much enjoyed it! Thanks, and thank you very much for the additional information! How many times has it bloomed for you? I have a 'Rex' x 'MM' but only one growth. Congratulations on a very nice blooming!!
Also, Ray - my apologies - my esq. bloomed this week and I'm afraid one of my pics overwrote your's here! But I have fixed it so now it is again your's in the photograph here. Sorry about that!
Rob March 26th, 2005, 09:31 PM Hi Heather,
this is the second time it has bloomed, it waited 2 years in between which I hear is not uncommon for roths. I know have a bunch of plants that are approaching BS and I'll be better able to judge for myself in the coming seasons. It is the beginning of the multifloral season for me so lots of buds are starting to show, yeah!
Paphraguy March 26th, 2005, 10:50 PM Hi, Rob!
Welcome to the forum! Your roth looks great and I also have the same exact cross.
Paphgirl March 27th, 2005, 07:21 AM Good to hear, Rob. Does this mean I'll be seeing lots of multi-florals at the Amherst Show in a couple weeks? Hope so!! :D
Rob March 27th, 2005, 07:45 AM Hi Heather,
I have to see what will be open but will probably have some on display. I have some great Norito hasegawas as well as some very nice Joyce Hasegawas that I hope will be considered for judging. The lady Isabels and St Swithins are in low bud and the william amblers are in high spike to blooming so I am sure those might make the trip. I might bring the Mercatelli again and I have some nice lowii and berenice in bloom soI wil have tol see what looks good when that time comes.
Rob
Paphgirl March 27th, 2005, 07:56 AM Excellent - good to know it will be worth the trip out there, though it is always nice to visit the Happy Valley again...I went to UMass Amherst, so my old stomping grounds....Anyway, I'll look forward to seeing some more of your plants!
fred March 27th, 2005, 11:01 AM Hi Heather I didn't know Amherst was having a show . I know they didn't enter as many shows as they have in the past . They have some really great growers and used to ut on a great display Ray
fundulopanchax March 27th, 2005, 07:46 PM At the show we saw a jaw-dropping black hybrid labeled as in the subject line above. It had the growth habit of rothschildianum in a jet black coloration. It was in the Orchid Society of NH exhibit. Does anyone know a source for this plant? My wife covets one!
