View Full Version : bud blast causes
paphaddict August 25th, 2009, 05:17 PM Hi everybody,
So I was all excited that my concolor x conco-bellatulum was spiking. Well about a week before the bud was going to open it turned brown and dropped. My question is what is the most common cause for bud blast. Right now I'm under the assumption that lack of airflow may have caused the problem so I'm adding a couple of ventilation fans to my plant stand as I currently have nothing. Any other help would be greatly appreciated as I have a wardii that is low in bud that I would hate to have blast.
Thanks in advance :D
newbie August 25th, 2009, 05:53 PM Sorry to hear that! What a bummer! Since you didn't have a fan installed I'll be guessing the lack of air was what caused the buds to blast.
casey August 25th, 2009, 06:23 PM A number of things could cause bud blast. Pests, a drastic change in temperature, overwatering, excessive water on the buds and flowers and lack of air flow.
paphaddict August 27th, 2009, 03:40 PM The only thing I can think of is the air flow issue. I don't believe I'm overwatering as I can see new happy looking roots filling the pot. I also don't see any signs of pests or fertilizer burn. Hopefully the fans I installed yesterday will solve the problem. On the topic of fans, how much airflow should I be providing? The computer case fans I installed are circulating the air in my stand but there's not really that much air movement. The way I can best describe the flow is I have 3 cats and the few cat hairs that have made it into my stand wiggle around on the plant leaves, but don't blow away lol.... Anywho, thanks for the info.

You need to provide more air circulation or your problem will still persist.

paphaddict September 10th, 2009, 05:50 PM I still just have the computer case fans in my stand, but things look much better than before. Plants look more perky and the potting medium is drying out at about 2-3x the rate it did before. I think the fans I have are sufficient for my small stand. I guess we'll see when the plants I have budding get close to blooming.
Rocco September 10th, 2009, 05:58 PM If your fans work great for your setup then there is no need to fix a thing.
