At our local OS, they ususally have a judgeing table for best at the meeting type of thing. Paphs are hardly ever recognized or mentioned. Most of our society grows phals and catts, The winner this past month was a phal violacea with 4 spikes(it was a huge plant) it was exhibited by the UNCC. Here were the two plants I felt deserved a mention even though the rest of the society did not:

No not me, just liked these 2 plants. I have watched them grow and spike, and then bloom for a few weeks now, and thought they deserved a little bit of attention...

That's a real shame. Both are quite nice. Our society has judging for each genus category, so Paphs are always considered.

Of the two, the first is far superior. If the second is Dollgoldi, then it is a fairly mediocre one. Still, it is hard to bloom those, so any flowers are nice! The first, which looks like Delrosi to me (delenatii x roth) is not bad. Dorsal is a little pinched and a bit more hooded than I would prefer, but the color is really nice and the rest of the flower is well proportioned. Either of these two hybrids have huge flowers, and would definitely be striking.

I suspect the first one is an above average Gloria Naugle ( micranthum x rothschildianum )

Love the Delrosi.
It seems to be the opposite in Australia. Well at least in our society. More times than not the orchid of the night or the Judges choice will go to a Paph. If you have a half-decent multifloral you are almost guaranteed the trophy. Paphs seem to win everything. Orchid judges here just love them. And compared to other orchid genera, Paphs seem to receive a very high proportion of awards.
