Yay! I got a Phrag Kovachi x Wallisii plant today. The person I got this plant from said to keep it watered all the time so I put it in a saucer filled with water. I'm growing it on a bright window sill. Any other grow tips you can advise? Thanks.

It should be an easy to grow hybrid or from what I have heard they are fast growers. Rainwater is recommended for the kovachii and besseae type Phrag species.

I don't have one yet but I too heard they are some of the fastest and easiest Phrags to grow.

Make sure that you clean out the saucer and fill it with new, fresh water every few days.

I also have a kovachii x wallisii hybrid and two kovachii species in my collection and I had problems growing them at first. I was told to keep them well watered at all times with rainwater but they kept going downhill and at one point I thought I was going to lose them. Then I decided to keep them on the dry side and not water them so often and lo and behold they bounced right back almost immediately, grew new leaves and have doubled in size very quickly in a very short time. The kovachii x wallisii hybrid now even has a new growth so I'm hoping to see a spike soon! :fcrossed:

So basically I grow them like my multi floral Paphs, lots of bright light, warm temps, 50% + humidity and plenty of air flow. Mine are definitely not water lovers.

Sorry, I missed your question! No, I don't grow them in standing water. I tried the first time I started growing Phrags and they just didn't like it.

Everybody's growing conditions are different, so what works for one person may not work for another. You will have to see how it goes, and judge by what the plant looks like under your conditions to see how you will have to grow it.

That is very true! Lots of great advice and valuable suggestions given here so take notes and try different things that members have offered and then see what works for you.
