Well just got back from Indiana were Dick and Sandy Wells had their annual open house and boy was it a good time. H. P. Norton was the speaker and the topic was Phal. violacea and its varities. He told the history of the coerulea and alba forms of the species, and gave some excellent deflasking advice. Needless to say I went home with some excellent plants...it's like they read my mind about what species to talk about. I ended up with:
Phal. violacea var. coerulea (two different clones)
Phal. bellina 4n...wish I had a picture of the sample one, it was easily the biggest flower I've ever seen on one
Phal. violacea var alba
Phal. violacea (coerulea x magenta)
Doritis pulcherrima (an alba peloric one)...photos coming soon
Paph. stonei
Phrag. besseae flava
Phrag. Charleston Sunrise
Phrag. (Sorcerer's Apprentice x wallisii)...photos coming soon
and lastly, a nicely spotted unregistered Phal that I can't remember the name of....photos coming soon
I am not at home now and don't have the clonal names from the crosses on hand, but I can post them if anyone is interested. I also showed him a photo of the violacea I posted on here a month or two ago, and needless to say I have some pollen to send Dick. If you like Phal. violacea, it was definitely worth the hot temperatures outside.
BTW, I remember someone looking for a 4n Phrag. besseae and I saw H.P. had two NBS seedlings there if they are still looking for one. It is the same cross as the one I posted here a few months ago, and apparently producing some nice ones. Lots of photos coming soon...still catching up from my vacation.
