Hi all!
So, my Mini Mark 'Holm' bloomed and afterwards, started to put out what I thought was a new leaf. It grew just a little bit, less than a cm. and now there is another "leaf" like thing coming up except that it looks more like a Phrag sheath or new leaf!

It is pointy, not rounded, and doesn't have an opening like a normal leaf would.
Totally bizarre - has anyone seen this before?

Try to get a pic of it. Phals can produce a terminal flower spike out of the crown of the plant, and that spells the end of the plant, though usually they produce keikis from the base of the plant. It could also be a "crown keiki" so to speak, but very hard to say without a pic.

I'll take a pic tomorrow, left my camera at home.
I was worried as I'd heard that about the terminal spikes, but this thing doesn't look like the classic mitten shape, nor is it hard, it really seems just like a leaf! Weird...pics to come. Thanks!

Kinda hard to see in there. Or maybe it's my monitor at work...
Any chance you can get a shot with a flash?

The flash one came out worse. I'll try again when I get some sun in here.
I tried cropping too, and enlarging, but didn't want to do it for me.

Okay, this is the best shot I could get.

The flash won't work if there is enough light!

Then take a picture of it indoors where the flash should work.

(I am indoors...) and that was with the flash.

It's weird. I wonder what Eric's is doing - he has the one from the same batch as mine.

Looks similar to what has happened to 1 of my rescued Phals.
It seemd to have aborted leaf growth when it was very small
& started a new leaf on the other side.I,m just hoping this 1 grows out normally.

I agree with Dwayne. :D
You could always send it to me for a closer inspection. But I would really need to keep it under observation until it flowers, just to be on the safe side...

This little mini has very very dark purple flowers , when i bought it it had
2 leaves & 1 root about 1" long.It was potted in a small glass vase in sphag ,
no drain holes & the poor little tyke was actually floating.
It has flowered but the flowers never opened correctly so i cut the spike
& this may have caused the aborted leaf.My best guess is that this type of
problem is stress related.

Is that the kiss of death? :poke: Looks kind of like a keiki growing out the top of your plant. Nurture it, the rest of the plant might say bye bye!
