This is my first ever Phrag bud to open, so please bear with me. Last night, the bud looked like a halapeno pepper. This morning I was amazed to see it almost open!! Is this normal? Will it take some time for the leaves & dorsal to straighten out? Or do I have a squashed bud??

Bel Croute is a cross between Sorcerer's Apprentice 4N x caudatum sanderae. I was hoping that having the sanderae in the cross would tone down the size of the plant, but that didn't seem to work. :?

Is this how Phrag flowers normally open??

Thanks!

Susan, yes that is normal but I have messed up a few Phrag flowers by prying them open because I was too impatient or tried to "fix" the flowers. That hybrid will get big and caudatum is not particularly a small species either at maturity. Nice photo, btw!

OK Pete,

I wont mess with it. I'm liking the spots in the pouch!

You know you're an addict when you can't wait for your vacation to be over already so that you can go home and enjoy your orchids. :D
