View Full Version : The rewards of a weekend's slothful activity

So this weekend I didn't have to go anywhere. Visited the parents today but that's exepected. Other than that I revelled in just sitting under my pergola and contemplating the beauty around me :) A very lazy Sat and Sunday.

While reviewing and moving my plants preparing for the oncoming Spring/Summer I found I have a few new plants coming in to bloom,

The most enjoyable one is a plant I saved from my own naivity/stupidity two years ago. At that time I bought a number of Paphs thinking thay'd be no challenge. The wise ones had told me to keep the plants "wet" so wet I kept them. Most promptly died of serious cases of rot :( . I caught a few and learnt a lot. One of them, P. roebelenii X chamberlainianum 'Lucky Chance" ( Paph Helvetia) has gone ahead leaps and bounds.

It has a bud!!!! My first multi floral

In addition to this, my recently purchased Lynleigh Koopowitz is in bud and there are "hints" in my Dellaina and Delophylum

I'm semy anxious about the time a number of my plants have taken to actually flower after first evidence they were going to. Does anyone know how long Helvetia takes to open?

Cheers
Stephan

Morning/Evening Stephan!
Sounds like a lovely weekend.

Congratulations on your marvelous success!
I don't know how long your Helvetia will take, roeb. for me was pretty
quick but I've no experience w/ the other parent.

:) Mmmm, multi florals - nice job - having just bloomed my first,
I commend you!!

Well, all I want to say is, I told you not to clean... see what pottering around the garden instead of cleaning does...

Congratulations on the buds!

Sounds like a productive slothfull weekend!!

The Helvetia should go pretty fast. Actually that one is a cross between a multifloral and a sequential bloomer. Some of those crosses have spikes that go on for a long time and have about 2 to 3 flowers open at once.

I had a great weekend too. other then going to the beach (like I do every Sat) I went to an orchid nursery to get a division of a rare catt. hybrid from the owner's private collection. he gave me that and a bunch of other devisions and refused to take any money! the heat must have shocked him that day.
hope it was a good weekend for everyone,
amber

mmmm., slothful....that week, er, month in the W. Indies I had in February is looking good right about now, but I'd take a month, or even 3 days at home w/ my babies at this point.

Work sucks. Tho the vaca was lovely at the time, and with what I have now? Not sure I'll do it again for a while, LOL!
