View Full Version : Wildcatt Request - Paph. lowii Paphgirl August 6th, 2005, 07:52 AM Just for curiousity's sake, I would love to have this if anyone would be kind enough to oblige. Thank you! :) RickL August 6th, 2005, 10:05 AM I don't have Wildcatt Heather, but this should be fairly long list to peruse. I just saw an AM given to a plant at the Huntsville show this past spring. There were 3 other lowiis there (including mine). It was pretty funny. Mine got blue ribbon for multifloral paph. The plant that got the AM took second in that class. The third place went to another species (can't remember). The unawarded lowii had huge flowers of very nice color, but it was a young plant with only 2 open flowers and a bud at the time. The second place plant had average size flowers, 4 open with a bud, OK color, but the petals stuck straight out (no curve) and faced forward instead of up. Petal presentation seems to be the most important criteria for awarding lowiis these days. Wildcatt will not give you much for the more subjective criteria for judging. If you can find an index of Awards Quarterly that could give you more info. The judging centers should have copies of all the AQ's. Using Wildcatt may help you pinpoint some dates or issue #'s so you could get more info on specific awarded plants. Paphgirl August 6th, 2005, 10:41 AM Thanks Rick! I got the wildcatt info...:) RickL August 6th, 2005, 10:48 AM How many are on it, and how far back does it go? Post some of the metrics for the different awards please HCC, AM, and FCC (if any) Paphgirl August 6th, 2005, 10:50 AM Well, it goes back to 1971. There are 20 pages, and I only just printed it - haven't gotten a chance to look at it yet at work, but will let you know when I do. Paphgirl August 6th, 2005, 12:34 PM Ok - just started to look at this. Only 1 FCC from 1989 - 'Exotic Dancer' from Bill Fogarty. NS: 15.40 Petal width:2.70 Petal length: 9.60 DS Wide: 4.3 DS long: 4.9 Ls. wide: 3.0 Ls. long: 4.30 Pouch wide: 2.9 Pouch long: 5.0 Lots of AMs, a couple of CCMs, some HCCs. RickL August 6th, 2005, 12:44 PM Is there info included on # of flowers per inflorescense? You can probably see my point about how hard it is to rate awarded plants on the basis of flower metrics. These days I think its pretty easy to find lowii flowers with a natural spread in excess of 16 cm. Paphgirl August 6th, 2005, 12:47 PM Oopsie, sorry forgot that important part...9 flowers on two inflorescences. I thought this one sounded nice 'Purple Pride' - Jerry Fischer - AM/AOS of 85 four flowers and three buds on on inflorescence. 15cm natural spread. That was from '01. |
