Do any of you AOS experts out there think this Phrag Cahaba Jim Bailey flower might be a candidate for an AOS award? This is one of the very first bloomings of a newly registered cross of Sunset Glow 'ORCHIDbabies' x Lutz Rolke 'Emily' AM/AOS. It's an ORCHIDbabies hybrid by Earl and Phyllis Bailey of Brierfield, AL. Earl visited our orchid society in November to talk about his phrag hybridization efforts and I was lucky enough to pick up this plant in bud. The cross was just registed in August 2008 and hasn't been awarded yet. The Baileys have suggested I take it to an AOS judging and I might just do that if it has a good bloom in January when the St. Louis judging center is open.

Paphy57 December 26th, 2008, 07:27 PM I think it could get an award. It is a really nice plant!!
I would take it anyways since it doesn't cost money to be judged unless it gets an award.

The second flower has opened and the first flower is gone. The second flower is as good as the first. I have friend who is an AOS judge and he goes to St. Louis to do his judging duties on the first Saturday on the month. That will be coming up soon, I think. -- Terrence

Phrag. Jim Bailey went to St. Louis for judging last weekend. It didn't get an award. The judges noticed some small streaks of red and yellow on one petal and that was enough to disqualify it from an award. Maybe next time.
orchidlover January 6th, 2009, 06:47 PM Sorry to hear that but there is always a next time! Good luck next time! :fcrossed:
