Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi is my favorite Phalaenopsis species. All the little bracts indicate where flowers will pop up. At one given time, the inflorescence will not have more than about 8 or so flowers open, as it is a succesive flowering plant. A single flower can actually last up to about a year on well grown plants, but life span of the var. alba is much less for some reason. The spikes can be in bloom for up to 4 years, and be in bloom all the time, with more and more spikes being added. I had Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi about 5 years ago when I first started, and I had it in constant bloom (with the exception of a week or two without blooms, as they were developing) for about 3 years. I was told this same information when I bought it, and did not believe a single word of it, until 2 years ago or so. I also aquired var. alba, which is great, but does not bloom as profusely and long, and does not multyiply as frequently as the normal type via spikes and at the base. Flowers last on var. alba for about a month or so.....
Good luck on growing this one, it is an easy and beautiful species to be growing. The plants can actually get very big, and multiply like a Doritis. Mine was in a 10" pot, overflowing with shoots, and shoots on the stems, and flowers everywhere. In only a few years, plants can get huge for a smaller species......anyone else grow this species? Great pics, really interesting looking pendant, usually they hang slightly while upwards.
