Hi all,

this is the story of a very unlucky but also very voluntary Cypripedium macranthos. I received it 2 years ago for my Christmas. Unfortunately, it broke its dormancy during the freight and began to grow home. Since this period, I have tried to correct this and to retrieve for it a good growth/dormancy cycle by growing it indoor and giving it a rest period in a fridge.

Its last rest period in my fridge began at the end of last April. Since this date, I have checked it from time to time. Today I have checked it again and here is what I have found: :(

However, the root system seems ok: :fcrossed:

And fortunately, 4 new growths are here:

So, what do you advise me to do? Should I let it in the fridge for some more months? Should I put it outdoor (the bad and cold season is beginning) even if it is often raining now? Or should I put it home even if I think that this is not the good solution?

Thank you very much in advance for your help. ;)

Best regards.

Roots still look good...I think leaving it in the fridge for it to rest is a good idea.

Put it back in the fridge, but just put it in a plain bag with nothing else in it. If you put anything else in with it, the plant will rot.

Hello,

thank you for your answers, I will follow your advices.

Nick, do you mean that I should put the roots directly in a plastic bag and then in the fridge? Don't you think the roots may rot when in contact with the plastic with the humidity? Usually, I put the roots in damp pumice before...

In advance, thank you for your help.

Best regards.

The plastic will not damage the roots when they come in contact. Usually I would just wash off the roots, give it a little shake to get the excess water off, put it in a plastic bag and seal. I think the problem that you are having is because your plants are getting too wet in the fridge.

Just make sure that it doesn't get overly dry and shrivel up. Good luck!

Ok, thank you very much Nick, I'll do what you say.

Just one last question to be sure to understand:

When you put your Cyps in a fridge, to you always put them directly in a sealed plastic bag without any substrate or do you go this way only when your plants are damaged like mine has been?

I am asking that because I remember that Tom told me to put them in a bag or in a box but with slightly damp mineral substrate...

All the best.

I always put them directly in a plastic ag no matter what. I just have to check them every so often to make sure they aren't shriveling up.
