Littlefrog July 26th, 2005, 01:06 PM P. vietnamense is legal in the US now, as far as I know. Although I don't have any yet. Antec released some flasks and seedlings a few years ago. Buy your flasks from a reputable breeder in the US, and you should be OK. I'd suspect there are still some collected plants being smuggled in, but I don't know why anybody would want one. The seed grown populations are probably much easier to grow and are almost certainly of higher quality since the parents are select clones. paphjoint July 26th, 2005, 01:19 PM Hmm, the subject was mastersianum not vietnamense, I've preordered a flask of that specie from Sam Tsui, which I'll get in November paphjoint July 26th, 2005, 01:26 PM Oops sorry didn't see the 2nd question papuanum July 26th, 2005, 02:08 PM P. vietnamense is legal in the US now, as far as I know. Several answers : - Flasks of vietnamense from the US source seems to be slow growers. Outside of the USA, 1 year is required to flower seedlings, so it is very surprising that there are not bunches of FS vietnamense in the USA by now and much larger plants. - Some strains are not included in the legal US flasks. albino ( there are 3 plants of it, I can speak of one of them that is quite easy to grow), and very dark vietnamense with excellent shape. - People always hope for better vietnamense on wild collected plants. It is scarcely the case for that species. - Seedlings are certainly smuggled in the USA of the better colored forms. Some are quite amazing. paphman910 July 26th, 2005, 02:23 PM Paph mastersianum flask from Sam has fat roots and they are very nice. Paphman who is sam?? papuanum July 26th, 2005, 03:19 PM Paph mastersianum flask from Sam has fat roots and they are very nice. Paphman It is the most important with that species, that can be extremely tricky to grow for a while. Sometimes they suddenly die for no apparent reason, but alas most of the plants available were wild-collected 10 years ago, if not all. paphman910 July 26th, 2005, 03:27 PM I forgot to mention it is Sam Tsui of Orchid Inn. The flask was purchased in May 2005. So far they are growing new roots and new leaves. I was very impressed with the flask from Orchid Inn. They are good growers so far. Paphman RickL July 26th, 2005, 06:56 PM NY The South Pacific barbata species have real thin leaves and are very sensitive to low humidity. Make sure you get that fixed before you get them. nyorchids July 26th, 2005, 07:57 PM thanks rick problem has been solved nyorchids July 27th, 2005, 08:16 PM just bought 2 paph. vietnamense  |
