View Full Version : I'm such a sucker!
Paphgirl July 22nd, 2005, 11:54 AM I went into TJ's this morning to get some flowers for work. Well, I got some. :D
This is my monster noid phal. It is actually two plants, of course, 20" leafspan. It's not going to win any awards but has a nice lip and will bloom for a while, and customers will like it and ask me if it is real. :poke:
So, for 20 bucks, what the heck?!

couscous74 July 22nd, 2005, 11:57 AM It's still a nice phal.
Maybe you should bring into work some of your own plants for sale... :poke:

TADD July 22nd, 2005, 12:35 PM Very nice, is that real? :poke:
Paphraguy July 22nd, 2005, 03:21 PM Looks very nice. It is the typical mass produced Phal that I see everywhere on TV and magazines. :D Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I know. It is very healthy though.
Working so much lately, I am missing my plants, but my Paphs don't like it much here at work. Phals seem to do better, and nice to have a couple of pretty, blooming plants around.
thistle July 22nd, 2005, 05:32 PM Bravo! I got the same kind of plant Monday at TJ's -other than a weird soggy spot on a leaf, I'm still quite happy with it. 1) it has a name-unusual for TJ/HD plants-(Phal pinlong 'lucky' x Phal orglades white rockx self) & 2 it's quite a large plant, 2 growths w/ 6-9 leaves on each, very pretty, many white flowers. I was strong & didn't get a phal grocery shopping this morning (although it was nice, white w/ a pink splash "Heverlee"), of course if they're marked down in a couple of weeks, all bets are off...
dustyatticstuff July 22nd, 2005, 07:04 PM Very nice, is that real? :poke:
  Tadd, you sound like my DH! When I get Paphs & Phrags in bloom he says "Those are so beautiful that they look like they are not real."
That's a pretty Phal! Love the Shaker boxes in the background. Hey, our TJ's does not sell live plants. When did they start doing that?

Haha, yes, Susan, we sell those! :poke:
Truly - excuse the store pics! We have some goofy stuff, but also some very nice things locally made.
dustyatticstuff July 22nd, 2005, 11:10 PM Love the store pics and the Shaker boxes. Actually your store has quite a few interesting items available for sale. You have a good eye. When I had my little antiques/gift shop in the early 90's, I would buy very similar things. There was a huge trade show in NYC that I would go to. It was amazing. It was also very interesting as to what would sell and what would not. Oddly enough, the things I was "lukewarm" about would usually sell first. Some of the things I personally loved, would not sell.
Your new Phal looks happy there!
Greenpaph July 22nd, 2005, 11:59 PM Heather,
The flowers are lovely and the plant is spectacularly clean and healthy!
thanks
Paphgirl July 23rd, 2005, 07:24 AM Thanks guys!
Susan, buying this year was really hard because we moved the store and didn't have a clue what people would want in the new location. So far so good, though it is smaller and we have a lot of old inventory not on the floor, which is distressing.
GP (as opposed to PPG) - I checked it and checked it and checked it before I bought it. Usually I do not go for this sort of thing, but this plant looked so nice, how could one resist?? Roots look good too.
