View Full Version : Paphiopedilum in The Incredible Hulk movie!
Paphraguy October 27th, 2008, 04:52 PM Has anyone seen the new Hulk movie released on video last week? I saw it on blu ray this past weekend and to my surprise they showed a Paph in one scene where the two main characters played by Liv Tyler and Ed Norton (who plays Hulk) are having a discussion and Liv's character shows Ed's character the Paph he had sent to her from South America a few years earlier and she said she was surprised it lived and grew in her house. A Paph from South America? Funny thing is I saw this movie a few months ago when it was playing at the theater but I don't remember that scene at all!
Anyway, it looked like a moquettianum or a Paph Vanguard to me. I'll try and post a photo of it later when I can. Excellent movie, by the way!
Paul B October 27th, 2008, 06:12 PM Thats interesting I saw it at the movies back in july but I dont remember seeing any paphs.I guess I have to rent it now.
Paphy57 October 27th, 2008, 07:48 PM When I watch movies, I don't think I look in depth far enough to see things like that! Interesting find. I actually did see a complex type while flipping channels on "Everybody Loves Raymond" on top of the refrigerator.
Slipperguy October 27th, 2008, 11:42 PM I havent seen it...but have to rent it now...cool!
orchidlover October 28th, 2008, 08:57 AM How interesting! We watched it over the weekend and I also don't remember seeing any Paphs in that movie or I may have missed it. LOL!
hjohn October 28th, 2008, 10:19 AM Wow, I saw the movie and should not have missed that!!
John
Paphraguy October 28th, 2008, 10:29 AM :? Seems like I'm the only one who noticed it, very strange and now I'm really confused! More strangely, I myself don't remember watching that Paph scene at the movie theater. I'm beginning to think it was an added bonus scene (or even a deleted scene) in the bluray version of the movie. The camera zoomed in on the Paph, filled up the screen and it looked very much like a moquettianum or a Paph Vanguard. I'll try and take a photo of it and post it here later.
orchidlover October 28th, 2008, 02:18 PM We watched it on the DVD version and I didn't see any Paphs. LOL!
Paul B October 28th, 2008, 04:43 PM Another good reason to get a ps3 just to watch blu ray movies with extra paph scenes.Lol
Paul B October 28th, 2008, 08:18 PM I just finished watching it on dvd and no paph scene. I had my eyes peeled the whole time must be a blu ray thing.
Paphraguy October 29th, 2008, 02:37 PM OK, mystery solved. The scene is titled "The Orchid" from the Bonus Feature under Deleted Scenes on the blu ray format disc, no wonder I don't remember that scene when I first saw it at the movie theater. The scene lasts about 2 minutes and is centered around that Paphiopedilum. I don't know if that scene is also included on the regular DVD version or not. Anyway, here are two caps I took from the BD and that Paph looks like a Paph Vanguard to me. They should have done it with a Phrag instead and not a Paph since he was in hiding somewhere in South America when he sent her the plant. The first photo is the close up shot of the flower and the second shot is with Liv Tyler and Ed Norton looking at the flower, fascinated.
Paphy57 October 29th, 2008, 03:44 PM There it is! So it actually does exist!! :poke:
Paphraguy October 29th, 2008, 03:47 PM There it is! So it actually does exist!! :poke:
 I wasn't making it up, see? What do you think it is? Looks very much like a Vanguard to me.
Paphy57 October 29th, 2008, 03:57 PM I think it looks like a Vanguard also. The petals are wnt it makes it look like that to me.
orchidlover October 29th, 2008, 05:45 PM Oh look at that you were not pulling our legs after all! LOL! That does look like a Vanguard.
Paphraguy October 29th, 2008, 10:51 PM I think it looks like a Vanguard also. The petals are wnt it makes it look like that to me.
Yes, the petals are a dead give away for the rothschildianum parent petals and the flower looks big, another roth sign.
Paul B October 30th, 2008, 10:16 AM Now I gotta get a ps3! lol
Paphy57 October 30th, 2008, 07:38 PM Now I gotta get a ps3! lol
What about a blu ray player? Maybe a bit less than the ps3.
Paul B October 30th, 2008, 08:35 PM Thats a good idea but I like to play games also.

Very true. I have the xbox 360 also. I really like it.
Paul B October 31st, 2008, 09:40 AM I also have the xbox 360 and I like it.If I get the ps3 I can watch blu rays and play games so I think that is a better deal. Are the ps3 games in blu ray and hd?
drorchid October 31st, 2008, 12:19 PM I was watching a British movie the other day on DVD called Saving Grace. It is about this woman who grows and hybridizes orchids as a hobby, but instead of orchids starts growing something else (I won't give it away if you have not seen the movie) that makes a little more money...
Anyway I started laughing out loud when she talks about one of her new orchid hybrids....she said she was all excited about her latest hybrid, she had crossed a Paphiopedilum with a Phalaenopsis!! You can sometimes tell that the people who write the scripts don't know too much about orchids or plants in general....
Anyway here is a clip of the trailer:

Most standalone BD players are still incomplete but the PS3 is still the best full complete up to date profile BD player out there and plus it can play games as well.

Paphraguy November 1st, 2008, 05:35 PM  Here is another one with a "rare yellow rothschildianum" being discovered and then magically the plant had Phal leaves, like a cross between a Paph and a Phal. LINK (http://www.slipperorchidforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12562&highlight=yellow+rare+rothschildianum)

Slipperguy November 4th, 2008, 08:23 AM I saw the movie on blu ray with my dad and watched that paph scene....very interesting but why delete it??..the deleted scenes also looked grainy.
Paphraguy November 4th, 2008, 03:15 PM The deleted scenes are not in HD but SD so that is why they look grainy and fuzzy.
Slipperguy November 4th, 2008, 11:41 PM Thnx Pete...
skipper March 19th, 2009, 02:46 PM That I find very interesting. Why did they delete the paph scene I wonder why. Great movie and it is one of my favorite movies.
Paphraguy March 19th, 2009, 10:20 PM I had the director's commentary on and I think the director said they did not want to spend too much time on the third character in the scene but I wish they had left that scene intact for us Paph lovers! I'm glad they included the scene on the blu ray disc!
