Anonymous March 13th, 2005, 01:13 PM A few shots I took today at Al's...
I was not aware they could have 2 blooms on a spike...

All one plant...and growths poking out the sides...If I remember correctly, these are about the 7th and 8th spikes of this season...

Here's under the bench you see in the far right corner of the shot above...where "will" grew up! :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/TerpsRock/AlPaphs3-13-05.jpg
Slipperhead March 13th, 2005, 06:07 PM NICE Stuff! What is Al's website?

Paphraguy March 13th, 2005, 06:28 PM Al has great plants.
Anonymous March 13th, 2005, 06:30 PM And, I guess we can say that here without getting kicked off!
John M March 17th, 2005, 09:03 PM What's the parentage of Super Norito? It looks like armeniacum x Norito Hasegawa. Is that right? I can't find it anywhere on the web. 'Got any more photos of that plant that you can share? It's gorgeous! Thanks in advance.
Einstein March 17th, 2005, 09:59 PM I was gonna guess Norito Hasegawa crossed back onto malipoense.
I can see why you had such trouble on the other forum Terp. You just don't know when to keep your mouth shut it seems.
Paphgirl March 17th, 2005, 10:25 PM Yeah, they kicked off lots of decent posters..
I thought that was ridiculous and now I think GW has been sold down the river and will pay in the end. The software - well, they should have updated as everyone else has over the last 12 years....Sigh...
Anonymous March 18th, 2005, 06:33 AM I've never had any trouble on any site. Not sure why you'd make a comment about me like that. Guess your screenname isn't too fitting now is it....
John M March 18th, 2005, 08:07 AM Hey Terp....
What's the parentage of Super Norito?
Do you know?
Thanks.
Anonymous March 18th, 2005, 08:17 AM I'll try to find out. I know it's the only one he has... This is the first time it's put out 2 blooms on a stem...even the other blooms this season were all singles. Are 2 blooms typical on an older plant? That flower's not fully open in the pic. I'm sure it's much more yellow this week. Would crossing it back to maliopense cause it to be more compact? It certainly still runs like armeniacum. I took mine up there to compare on a couple blooms a month ago...certainly looked the same to my untrained eye...altho the flowers were larger...mine's only a 1st bloom...

Park Bear March 18th, 2005, 10:17 AM wow, how did I miss this post, what a nice BIG plant  . I'm sitting trying to figure out what I can sell so I can buy more plants. I'm afraid my fish will be suffering a little this year. I may convert one of my fishrooms over to orchids only. I'm in big trouble.
Paphgirl March 18th, 2005, 11:27 AM I've never had any trouble on any site
Okay, not sure we're all on the same page here - maybe we are talking about two different forums and I also know there is another Terpman (or some such name w/ Terp in it) out there also, so....
Anyway....
Al March 24th, 2005, 01:33 PM Super Norito is a description of the plant because of it's extreme size and vigor. It is not the grex name. This is Norito Hasegawa 'Leesburg'. I do not know the clone names of the parents. I do not even remember where I bought it, except that I think it came from one of the vendors at the Paph forum in DC half decade ago. Probably Antec. My records tell me I bought only a single plant in a 4" pot and I have never owned more than just this one.
This year it made five spikes over a six-month period, starting in August or October of last year. The first three spikes had one flower each. On the two most recent spikes, it has made two flowers on each. This is the first time it has ever done this.
Two February's ago, it was seen at the Paph forum and the judges considered it for various awards. They declined to score it for a quality award because the flowers of 'Leesburg' usually have a punched-in pouch, always on the same side of each flower. At that time, it had three open flowers, and they told me it should be brought back if it ever had more than 3 flowers open at once and they would reconsider it for a CCM. It has been two years since they saw it and it is almost twice as many growths. It is very vigorous. When I repotted it last summer it still appeared to be a single plant. I will not divide it until it obviously comes apart on its own. It produces both long runner rhizomes and those "from-the-leaf-axil side growths, so it just keeps getting bigger.

Boy, did we over-analyze that one!
No wonder no one could find it!
It sure is a superb plant, Al, thanks for the info and good luck the next time you take it for judging!
John M April 1st, 2005, 01:42 AM Thank you so much Al, for clearing that up. Man!...have I spent a long time trying to find the parents of "Super Norito"!!!!!!!
Al, your plant is out of this world. I love it! I'd give my right arm for a division if/when it comes apart. Very well done!!!!
