View Full Version : Help with Swedish Customs

Has anyone had experience with importing Cyps from Sweden to the USA? The Swedish Postal System does not want to deal with CITES permitted packages, because, they say, they don't have the cooperation of local customs. Instead, they recommend contacting a private transport team at a much greater cost.

You would think that all the countries that signed the CITES treaty would be prepared to deal with CITES permits...

Any thoughts from the gallery?

I'm from Sweden but I have never exported any plants outside EU. Instead I'm trying to import from US but I can't even if I have all papers and permits ready. The only way to get plants from US is when the vendors i visiting Europe.

I don't know how true this is and I didn't want to mention it before but I have heard of people sending plants in regular "unmarked" boxes to people in other countries without any problems. What would happen if they did get caught?

I have e-mailed the Swedish Department of Agriculture... haven't heard back from them.
Svante and I are perplexed, but still working to see if we can get some of his awesome hybrids to the USA.

you could have them sent to another person in a different EU country, that can handle CITIES, they could forward them to you.

I do not recommend the illegal method but I know it is done. I accidentally made an e-bay purchase and did not realize that the vendor was in Taiwan. The plants had no problem arriving at my home.
