I have a Phrag Besseae ( Fox Valley Flame' AM/AOS x ' Select ' that is blooming well and has a new growth coming out the side of the original plant. The problem is all the leaves on the original are getting brown leaf tips. I am using RO water and setting this plant in a water dish, grown in windowsill with catts. What do I need to change? I fertilize weekly with diluted Dynagrow. Thanks in advance. I am also new to this forum and to phrags. I have had this phrag just about a year. I just got some others from Fox Valley.

Hi Linda welcome to the slipper orchid forum, you have come to the right place! Try applying less fertilizer. I had one with the same problem and that helped some.

Hi Linda,

Welcome to the slipper orchid forum and thanks for joining! I have a few different besseaes in my collection and to me, they are some of the most fussiest plants ever! I also used to have the same exact problem so what worked for me was keeping them on the dryer side and the problem went away but every now and then the problem returns but not as frequent. Also provide lots of air movement and humidity, good luck! :fcrossed:

You might have salt buildup in the pot. I would run lots of water through it and refill the tray with new water every 2-3 days also.

Thanks for the input. I am thinking maybe fertilizer, but I have not fed this orchid the last few times. Low humidity and too much water maybe also. I will play around with these suggestions and see what happens. Up until now, it has been great growing for this one.
