Here is a short video with some photos and video clips from my deflasking of a second niveum compot. I think these plants will do much better.

Brachys are a hard bunch to deflask with their brittle roots.

I like your video on youtube, but I would use a water spray bottle to get the excess agar off. I find that with the spray water bottle you get less root damage.

If you're referring to skipping the toothpick, this agar was really firm and a spray bottle wouldn't wash it off. And firm agar isn't a good candidate for "just put it all in the pot".

Every flasking company is different though. Mukoyama in Japan uses a much softer agar that I could rinse off easily.

I'll just note I'm not a pro, but I hope this is just a useful "experience" video.

Even with the firm agar, I was still able to get the agar off by soaking the root mass with agar in room temperature water for a couple of hours. Agar is hydrophilic and can absorb alot of water so it should become softer!

I have deflasked many flask from Sam of Orchid Inn.

Ah, interesting. My biggest worry was having the roots submerged for so long. You haven't experienced any damage or effects on the seedlings from having the roots in water for hours?

I haven't had any problems soaking them for 3-4 hours in room temperature water. I have deflasked over 40 flask of rothschildianum, stonei, bellatulum, delenatii, sanderianum, praestans, gigantifolium, lowii, and leucochilum with no ill effects!

I did not even use a fungicide on the seedlings!
