View Full Version : Today's Purchase
Anonymous March 11th, 2005, 03:57 PM Check out what practically fell in my lap today at the MD show. I was in a discussion with a vendor who primarily had Dend's and Catt's and a few delanatii's and stuff (the typical reseller)...then pulls this out from under the table...not quite open yet...

It's a first bloom with 3 growths... The leaves look exactly like my other one and the blooming growth is only 1 inch smaller... So, I now feel better about my other one now and...bonus...I have this one! This isn't the type of plant I'd expect to see at a show like this.
Was very surprised and happy to see Paul from Ratcliffe show up as he wasn't a "scheduled" vendor.
I bought 2 from Ratcliffe...a 3 growth delanatii in bud (I don't like my old one and wanted the "new" type)...and a 2 growth hainanense in bud...all 3 plants for $70...
Paphgirl March 11th, 2005, 04:01 PM hehehehe, that's funny, what a coincidence! Excellent find!
It is strange, things like this have been happening to me too. We discuss something here, and all of the sudden, mine's in bud. I guess it's the good karma around this place!
Congrats on your purchases. Nice choices, but I particularly like the wilhelm. Good prices also!
Paphraguy March 11th, 2005, 04:05 PM Hey, CONGRATS! Excellent plant and prices! Your lucky day?
Anonymous March 11th, 2005, 04:12 PM I know...how funny is that!!?? :? And, there wasn't another multi-floral Paph species for sale in the entire place! (I'm not counting stuff like primulinum, etc...plenty of those...just the true multi's) I couldn't believe it and had to take it to some of the Paph guys just to be sure...Paul wanted one himself at that price.
The seller did have some smaller ones at the same price, but somehow got to calling me "Paphman" and wanted me to have that one. 8)
Mariott picked up a couple AM's at his display...I know, shocker... Ratcliffe had 1 HCC on a huge moquettianum bloom. Woodstream had a nice display and had lots of ribbons, but no AOS awards this time. And, stupid me forgot the camera!

Thanks for the info too! I always like to hear how vendors do at these things, you know, good sign and all! My moq. and primulinum in bloom are from Paul, actually.
Anonymous March 11th, 2005, 04:29 PM I think Paul has some of best values out there from my limited experience. They're always good sized plants with reasonable prices. He seems to be in it mostly for fun. I'm guessing that's where you got your tiger too...much cheaper than other growers.
Most of my multi's are years away from blooming...and some maybe more because I like to rot roots sometimes. The prim I have posted is Screaming Yellow Zonker x self from Marriott. I have a Big Chuck x self moq that I got from Al. That thing grows like a weed...I bloomed it on 1 growth a yr ago and now has 5 more coming out of the sides...I'm hoping for multiple spikes next go round.
Maybe you're right...it's the site...thanks for getting it going Peter!

You're welcome, Rob! Paul and Mary are also super nice people with excellent beautiful plants.
Paphraguy March 11th, 2005, 04:36 PM My hainanense also arrived in bud from Paul which is still in bloom and the second growth is now in spike already. I love this species!
Park Bear March 11th, 2005, 11:11 PM wow, great find and great prices.
Anonymous March 17th, 2005, 06:22 AM My hainanense blasted... Guess it didn't like the trip from Florida through the snow up to Maryland and finally to Virginia... But, it has another growth and will live to bloom soon...
Paphgirl March 17th, 2005, 08:46 AM :therethere: Rob, Pete's hain. from Paul shot up another spike right after the first, so hopefully your's will soon also! There's a pic in the gallery, I think.
