Paphgirl

My very first Phragmipedium, purchased in bloom with first open last Feb. 24th. Blooming as of today - first to rebloom. This is (I always feel like I'm at the Westminster dog show when I say that!) Phrag. St. Peter (Eric Young 4N Mont Millais AM/RHS x longifolium 4N)
I'm not entirely thrilled with it, frankly. The dorsal has been reticent to separate and become erect. Perhaps it is just me being pre-mature paphgirl as always. Also, the pouch is small and rather a bit ragged looking. The exception is the color. The red is significantly darker, richer, thicker than last year, by a lot. It was much more an orange/coral color. I'm surprised by the depth of the color this year (though the dorsal looks washed out also.) Which means I'd also like to discuss the merits of tetraploid - but that is another thread...
Thanks for looking. Now, I know this is dark, however, the color is really QUITE accurate! Much different than last year! You will get the idea anyway, until I get a sunny day and can try again - will update of course!
