Tom Velardi April 21st, 2008, 06:13 PM Dieter,
Remarkable that your plants are in flower already! Is that typical or did you get a really warm year? Even here only C. formosanum is in flower yet. Very nice parviflorums you have there...so sweet.
Paul B April 21st, 2008, 06:30 PM Wow very nice!
Paphy57 April 21st, 2008, 07:50 PM Those are some nice cyps you got there!
cyprimaniac April 28th, 2008, 07:12 AM hello guys,
this is my Gabriela (fasciolatum X kentuckiense),
this year with 3 flowerstems.
http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5827/1gabrielavj7.jpg
flowering same time as last year,
when we had a "heat wave" middle of April
with about 30 Celsius.
this year is fairly "normal"
today, 18 Celsius and sunshine.

cyprimaniac May 1st, 2008, 09:05 AM hey guys,
here are some more pics, after a morning shower.
the last of the formosanum flowers this year

this only seems to be farreri,
but on a closer look it is not,
but maybe of hybrid origin ( farreri X fasciolatum? )
plant was imported from China some years ago.

this is fasciolatum,
some years ago imported as "farreri var. big" from China

fundulopanchax May 1st, 2008, 05:09 PM Hi, Dieter,
Beautiful flowers! I have remade Gabriela for myself but I should buy a couple of blooming size plants so I dont have to wait so long!
I like your supposed farreri x fasciolatum. I have a plant exactly like that one that came in with fasciolatum. I have another fasciolatum of which I am suspicious as well.

Paphraguy May 1st, 2008, 06:18 PM Beautiful! Thanks for posting!

hi Ron,
thats what I always think, when I making new crossings.
but there are so many cheaters in the "market".
even buyin g from "serious nurseries" you cannot be sure
to get what you bought.
But I will try to find some real good Gabrielas this year.
mine is from Jan Moors.
cheers

Tom Velardi May 2nd, 2008, 04:52 AM Gorgeous Dieter! I love both of the fasciolatum/farreri types, especially the darker one. Wild sourced plants are virtually impossible to determine to be true species or hybrids - I suspect you are right that the darker one is a hybrid. It seems however that fasciolatum is in fact a very variable plant. Your formosanum too has very nice color - much darker markings than usual, especially around the orifice of the pouch. Great plants!
Slipperguy May 2nd, 2008, 11:38 PM Awesome cyps...
fred May 2nd, 2008, 11:41 PM They look great. you have done well
Loripep May 5th, 2008, 08:24 PM Here's my fasciolatum growing in an ebb/flow system like that described by Ron.

orchidlover May 6th, 2008, 01:38 PM That is a gorgeous flower and your pictures are beautiful thank you!
Tom Velardi May 6th, 2008, 06:09 PM That's a lovely one Lori! Very lemony lip, not so common. It looks very happy as well. How long have you had it?
Loripep May 7th, 2008, 05:56 AM I've only had this fasciolatum for 2 growing seasons so keep your fingers crossed for me.
Lori
fundulopanchax May 7th, 2008, 09:08 AM Beautiful fasciolatum, Lori. How do you like the ebb and flow? I am going to set up one bench outside this summer to try it in the shade house. It works so well inside under lights. The plants grow so well I feel that I am cheating. I suspect my growing Phrag collection inside would like it too.
Ron
Paphraguy May 7th, 2008, 11:44 AM Beautiful Cypirpedium flower and great shots!
Loripep May 7th, 2008, 12:45 PM So far, so good with the ebb/flow table. Bit of an algae issue on the perlite in one seedling tray but no other problems. I'l ltry and take some pics later.
I've still got a lot of room in there so will have to fill it up this fall : )

Tom Velardi May 10th, 2008, 09:29 PM Lovely Dieter! The third "handmade" x ventricosum is lovely. I just love the names vendors cook up to sell more plants.

cyprimaniac May 28th, 2008, 09:06 AM hey guys,
these are the last pics for this year from my side.
I am just back from a short trip and prepared some of the pics for you :)
as a result for this year, I must say, the cyps were not so well flowering
as in the last years, and I dont know, why.
nevertheless, these are some more pretty pics:
this is my Gisela yellow, somewhat paler than last years
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4514/1gisela08ejq4.jpg
Cyp. Philipp, a darker clone, I have another cultivar,
with double size of this flower !!
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/2707/1philipp08cat8.jpg
Cyp. John, a nice little one
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8974/1john08cn3.jpg
and to compare the size of these two

this is MY Maria :)
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/148/1maria08ya2.jpg
this too is some kind of a "Slipper Orchid"
Arethusa bulbosa :)

enjoy.

Tom Velardi May 28th, 2008, 04:43 PM Neat Dieter! Not many people growing Arethusa, that is for sure. How long have you had it?
joakim May 28th, 2008, 05:33 PM Dieter lovely plants and great to have the comparison picture. Gives a feeling of the size differences that the close up do not get.
Kind regards
Joakim
Paphy57 May 28th, 2008, 07:41 PM I have never seen a gisela yellow! Yours is quite nice!
fundulopanchax May 28th, 2008, 08:29 PM Very nice ventricosums, Dieter. It is amazing how many Cyp's named something else turn out to be ventricosum!

hey,
these are seed sown plants, grown for many years here in Germany by an "old buddy", where also my plant originates.

Tom Velardi May 29th, 2008, 07:29 AM Fantastic Dieter! Arethusa grown from seed - no small feat of cultivation.
Paul B May 29th, 2008, 10:10 AM Wow very nice cyp plants!
cyprimaniac June 9th, 2008, 11:53 AM hey guys,
I just "overlooked" this Cypripedium kentuckiense,
but its really the last plant to flower this year.
we have these days about 30 Celsius outside, and I can state,
that species can stand those hot temps very well.

Nice dark form Dieter. Indeed this species can endure very hot temperatures with no ill effect. Come July, August, and September my plants have to live with daily temps above 30 C (sometimes over 34 C even) with very little cool down at night, usually not lower than 24 C. The first frost doesn't make it here until December, so the plants stay green as late as mid November!
