Justin April 19th, 2008, 10:49 AM Oh no reason, i guessed they might not like the heat.
i actually don't know much about these other than i tried to grow one once and it didn't work out too well.
Paphraguy April 19th, 2008, 01:22 PM Beautiful! Is that a dwarf variety? I thought they get much larger.
Ron-NY April 19th, 2008, 02:34 PM Very nice Theresa! Congrats. I have one that looks like that. I imagine that it is a young plant and will get much bigger in time.
Nynaeve April 19th, 2008, 07:33 PM Yes it is a young plant I grew from a tiny bulb I bought at HD. I have another one also but it has not bloomed yet. I actually bought them last season and they grew but did not bloom. Then they appeared to die, but when I uncovered them I saw live buds just under the soil so I left them alone. I left them out to freeze in the winter, and now I am rewarded! Maybe next season the other plant will also bloom.
Tom Velardi April 20th, 2008, 08:38 AM That's a beauty Teresa! I've found them easy in my climate, which is not so hot as yours, but the summers are truly subtropical. Thanks for the shot!
ammopak April 20th, 2008, 09:19 AM I think you have very green fingers:D Very nice flower.
Nynaeve April 20th, 2008, 09:58 AM Thanks y'all! Well it does get very hot in Chicago in the Summers also. And peonies grow like weeds in people's yards in Chicago! I think perhaps it is the cold cold rest that is really important.
budsbud April 21st, 2008, 10:26 AM WOW!!!!! That is so cool!!! I wanna grow some!!!!
rdlsreno April 21st, 2008, 12:47 PM Peonies are one of my favorite non-orchid plants, Very nice Theresa!!!:woohoo:

toddybear April 21st, 2008, 01:53 PM They grow like weeds in my northern zone....mind you, they don't bloom until July! Very impressive to bloom one in Texas....I'd stick it in the freezer for the winter.
Tom Velardi April 21st, 2008, 06:18 PM Thanks y'all! Well it does get very hot in Chicago in the Summers also. And peonies grow like weeds in people's yards in Chicago! I think perhaps it is the cold cold rest that is really important.
Definitely the summer heat is no sweat (HA HA), and yes, they do need a consistent winter, but not necessarily cold. If the average is below 50F for around three months, that is plenty. You did a very nice job carrying it through your mild winter and then flowering it so well. Growing now for its second season is very promising. Good job!
paphjoint April 22nd, 2008, 12:36 AM Awesome -- Very well done !!
