My Brassia gireoudiana is in bloom again. This is the largest in the Brassia family and this plant will get very big in no time and the flowers are also the biggest among the Brassias and they are extremely fragrant! The scent is highly sweet and fruit like, I love it! This plant got so huge last year that I had to divide it into 4 divs.

Too cooll! and I didn't buy one!

Though, I would this year. I'm afraid I'm not doing so hot w/ your Joyce - damn sunshine!
She's holding on though.

Fragrance - ya! I sat in the front row at the OS meeting yesterday and all day was smelling the three Brassias! Fruity--Spicy! Can't tell like what, but a nice combo of the two.

Heather, I'll send you a gireoudiana div when I divide again. It is my favorite Brassia species but you do need a lot of space for it. The more common Brassia Rex Sakata smells more like spicy cinnamon to me and not fruity like the parent gireoudiana species.

Well, you're sweet.
I got space in my anti-paph area.
Last year I didn't have that area, really. So I was nervous.

Yes, it was a Rex Sakata I was sitting closest too all day, so that makes sense, but they smell more like orangey cinnamon to my nose. :)

I still have an extra Joyce Nagata div still in bloom. Do you want it? I can send it to you when I'm ready to ship your plants. Let em know. I prefer Joyce N to Rex Sakata.

Tadd,
Once you get your new place, you'll be posting pics of huge monsters like this and Sorceror's Apprentice everywhere in your new place. Did you base your bid on the ambient light level in each room? :poke:

That looks great Pete!!!

There was an article in a recent AOS issue that said these guys are pollinated when giant wasps try to "kill the giant spider".

Pretty wild.

I can't tell from your photo, Pete. Do these grow from hanging baskets or in flowerpots??

Susan, mine is growing in a large pot. Last year it grew so big that it got too heavy so I divided it and got 4 divs out of it and now it is already huge again. The plant was spectacular with 4 spikes and 20-25 large fragrant flowers on each spike. Here is the link. Pete,

Wow!! That is one hefty plant. It is lovely!!! It probably likes being divided so it can multiply and just get bigger, forcing the caretakers out of house & home!!!
