View Full Version : Paphiopedilum vietnamense
papuanum July 9th, 2005, 03:40 AM on sale at the Bloemenveiling in Aalsmeer (The Netherlands) this past week, in flower, seed grown, very good quality flowers for... 4€ each ! ( roughly 5.5-6$)
Come with a phytosanitary certificate from Vietnam ( 1999) mentioning 'ARtificially propagated flasks of Paphiopedilum vietnamense).
Gideon July 9th, 2005, 10:52 AM Very interesting, that is cheaper than our P insignes. Was this the price for the plant in flower or for the flowers only?
If it was for the plant I hope you bought some.
papuanum July 9th, 2005, 10:53 AM For a whole 1 growth + 1 new one plant in flower. Nope, because it is so common and cheap here that everyone already has some. There are some far more selected ones available, some like a perfect delenatii but dark crimson red nearly all over. Not very expensive too.
Gideon July 9th, 2005, 11:11 AM I can only hope to find one here...let alone at 4€. Let's just hope that Kovachii follows the same price trend and becomes available to the masses at an affordable price soon.

No, in perfect conditions, with a flower stem.
It is not that of a great price for vietnamense, there are several thousands around. Normal vietnamense has very weak flowers without any substance, and poor colors, only a few plants have very good substance and very good color.
malipoense July 11th, 2005, 05:59 AM according to what I know of the European market, these will probably end up at a much higher price in orchid shops in Europe .... Prices can be quite outrageous there, even for non-selected plants ....

Depends where you live and which orchid shop you choose. vietnamense in bud in a dutch retail orchidshop sold for EUR 12 this week-end... the same ones are sold 35€ in Italy by another shop, and 90€ in France, but in both of the latter countries you can get it for 18€. Paphs are cheap in Europe, look at all those charlesworthii albums in bud for 40€... They are all around.
ECO ORQUIDEAS - Brazil July 14th, 2005, 01:57 PM Papuanum Do you have any good Dutch seller that can export? For those prices I am interested in some.[/quote]

I did not buy one, but I said that a good vietnamense should have delenatii shape and crimson red. There are not thousands of them, there are thousands of delenatii, and quite a few good ones, from a german cross, some of these have been sold to Taiwan. Now they are of no interest because the market has been filled, and the bulk is sold as pot-plant.
Paphiopere July 25th, 2005, 07:13 PM I aim at me the waiting list for the Phrag. kovachii to 4€
