View Full Version : Cypripedium formosanum
Mafate March 27th, 2008, 05:14 PM Hello all,
well, this forum seems somewhat asleep at the moment, so here are two photos to open the new flowering season! :p
Cypripedium formosanum of course that I have grown for three years.
First year: one shot, one flower.
Second year: two shots, two flowers.
This year: four shots, four flowers! :hyper:
I think that this plant should be pleasant to look at in two years time!

fred April 1st, 2008, 02:50 AM That is beautiful I think the cyps are becomming more widely known and plants like this will spark peoples interest. This year I did see a vendor at a show and people were interested even though there were no plants to see people were buying .Thanks for sharing

Hey Ray, was that vendor possibly our own Ron Burch of the Gardens of Posthill? Cyps are lovely flowers, but the big issue with them is the short flowering time (two weeks or less even if the weather is good for most) and the difficulty in growing them longterm. Personally I love them and find the challenge a blast, but sometimes I wonder about my mental functions when I think of the agony and effort I put into them just to look at the flowers once a year for a mere couple weeks!

Mafate April 3rd, 2008, 08:01 AM Hi Tom, I completely agree with you about our mental functions, but every year, when I see the buds breaking ground, I am like a child in front of an ice cream! And then I forget all the last and next efforts!

Me too! What a lot of work the rest of the year. But when that new hybrid breaks bud the first time or any species opens, then I say, "Oh yea, thats why!"
Beautifully colored formosanum, Mafate!

Ladyslipper Grower April 6th, 2008, 09:20 PM Can you post a photo of the entire plant with all 4 blooms, too, please?
Love to see how the whole plant looks.
Thanks!
