Anyone know how long Orthenex concentrate (liquid) and Orthene Spray might last? Mine are just about a year old and I was cleaning out my bins and wondered if it was time to ditch them, or if they lasted multiple years.

Thanks!!

There is no expiration date anywhere on the bottle. In general never pitch pesticide bottles into the trash, but take them to a county recycle center when they have thier toxic waste days. Same for old computors, they are full of metals.

Compared to things like DDT, Chlordane, and seven dust, allot of todays pesticides are more labile and degradable, so will have a shorter shelf life.

You may want to Google the manufacturer to determine the disposal recommendations of Orthene.

Thanks Rick! Yes, I knew that about disposing of in a safe manner - there are instructions on the bottle for that, but as you indicated, no info on shelf life or expiration rate.

The pesticides you can legally buy these days are typically quite disposal friendly as in if you rinse out the empty bottle and put holes (so it will never ever be a container again) in it, it can go in the trash. Our trash collectors legally take computer components but refuse to take even AAA batteries which is understandable.

My rule of thumb for expiration dates is when it doesn't kill the bugs anymore for either efficacy or they've become immune, chuck it, but never into your water system via down the drain.

The nasty sugar ants we have down here get used to the stuff WAY too fast. It's amazing how, in the course of one evening, they'll move a whole colony into one of my plant pots and declare sovereignty. Then there's the fire ants which are a whole other story...

Mees loves some fire ants. If you want to have some joy in your life, I highly suggest sinking your foot into a fire ant colony. OUCH! I had them in my classroom one time, their bites burn and turned into little welts. Vicious little buggers(pardon the pun).

I don't use many pesticides, but I usually keep everything until it is empty
