OK I love phrags but not a big fan of mexipediums I have another question. I recently found out that mexipediums are not phrags so are there any phrag x mexipedium crosses made or is that immpossible? Also how many different kinds of mexipediums are out there?

No expert but best to my knowledge there are no crosses with phrags. Many attempts but no success. Mexipedium is unique in slipper orchids in that it is in a genus all by it self.

We've tried many times over the years to cross-pollinate (phrag x mex) and (mex x phrag)with no success. Not only with other species within Section micropetallum, which would be the obvious, but with other Sections, as well as a few Phrag, (hybrid x mex) and the reverse. Plus, we tried it with mex as a pod parent as well as a pollen parent - all to no avail. The best we could do is (Mex. xerophyticum x Phrag. Mem. Dick Clements) - not bad looking seedlings coming out of flask, but totally dead within two weeks of compotting. All the other attempts died in flask.
Thanks,
