So, I have this monster Phrag. at work - it was like $10 in bloom around January. It is Sorcerer's Apprentice x wallisii. (Hmm, honestly, I should put it up for auction, just thought of that.)

At any rate, the roots are growing out the bottom of the pot! Never had a slipper do this before. I sit it in a dish of water because it takes more water than my other work plants do, and I don't care too much about it; it has two new starts though. Could this be why the roots are so adventurous? Is this similar to what happens w/ plants in S/H?

As an aside, my ecuadorense is doing much better at growing roots and plant since I set it in water also. I was always rather against the water thing, but I have to admit, the plants I've experimented with are seeming to enjoy the treatment!

Heather, one of my original Sedeniis stands in a shallow water dish, and I noticed that it also has roots growing out the bottom of the pot. None of the others have done this, yet.

The only phrags as you know who really do not like the H2O treatment are the caudatum types, and some of there hybrids. It is a nice way to provie constant moisture when you can't water everyday. Congrats!

On the caudatum note....this year I put my species caudatum the is in a basket with spag in my waterfall stream in direct Sun and it seems to like it. In the Winter I let it dry out more.
