I posted this one last winter when it bloomed around Christmas - I am trying to put it back on cycle this year. It came with a group of Cyp fasciolatum and it does have some fasciolatum genes but there is something else as well. The flower is very small and the plant is very tall - nearly 20 inches. By the end of this week a real fasciolatum will be in bloom. I will make a winter post of it.

Interesting plant and no doubt a hybrid. What are the dimensions of the flower? I can't wait to see your lovely fasciolatum again!

The fasciolatum is almost completely open. It should have completely relaxed by Saturday morning so I will shoot it then.

The slipper on this one is only 3 cm in its longest dimension - very dainty. It will still be in good shape when the big fasciolatum is open so I will position them side by side in a photo.

no doubt a hybrid.

When Werner dug these to send he did ask in advance if I wanted all I ordered since as he put it "when I dug the plants today I realized that some insect had beaten me to one of the flowers with pollen as the roots on some are definitely not those of pure fasciolatum."

Man, that is tiny! Too bad the plant is so large since such a small flower would be much better displayed on an equally small plant. It will be interesting to see if it makes multiple flowers in the future - a clear sign it is indeed a henryi hybrid. Does it have a fragrance?

I have not detected a fragrance but I am very bad at that (unless it smells like pizza!). I will ask my wife to check.
