Hi All,
I just received my copy of the new book "Tropical Slipper Orchids" by Harold Koopowitz. I haven't had a chance to review it completely, but it looks like the chapter on culture (especially the part dealing with mix) is worth the price of the book. (Which is $ 59.95) from Timber Press. I'd imagine some of the book wholesalers might have it cheaper. His explanation of the entire CITES issue is excellent as well.
Best,

I got one too and it's a pretty good book. Only downside is there are no photo for all the species and focus too much on only on the species that are used heavily for breeding!! But great book if you ever want to try breeding or looking for which easy hybrids and species to grow.

I ordered mine and I haven't checked my mail yet but I think it may have arrived today. Being new at this I'm sure it will be helpful. That's good to hear about the culture, can't wait to check it out.

I think it's a very good book as well especially if you are into hybridising. I think the Lance Birk book is much better for culture and photos of individuals species including a breakdown of the natural culture.
But this book is a good compliment to the Birk book and I recommend both to people who love slippers.
I just bought the chinese one which I haven't had a chance to read yet, when I do I will try and write a review here for everyone.

I have ordered the book recently as well. And I'm now waiting for shipment. I am very excited of getting it into my hands.
I first encountered the book in google book search. I have read some of the chapters, very fortunately a few days ago when I was still allowed to preview some contents. After purchasing the book, I now could not preview it in google. It seemed like to me a perfect coincidence that it was my destiny to own it.
One of the reasons that urged me to purchase the book is the sufficient details of each Paph species. Even the controversial issues such as distinguishing ang-thong, niveum, godefroyae are discussed in the chapters. I particularly like the way the author organized the contents, which was based on Paph alliances. Each species are discussed in details of up to at least 1 page each.
I shall write a review when I have a chance to read it thoroughly.

Hi everyone !!! I'm a newbuy. I'm Arturo, from Italy. I'm an Entomologist interested also in Gramineae, Cypripediaceae and Aristolochiaceae. I bread Mastigopetalum and I'm very interested about their reproductive biology.
I got one too and it's a pretty good book. Only downside is there are no photo for all the species and focus too much on only on the species that are used heavily for breeding!! But great book if you ever want to try breeding or looking for which easy hybrids and species to grow.
I agree with U Lanny. The Book is a excellent source for the breadind and Hybrid-stuffs, but ist a little bit poor in the pure botany part :( . Well considering that I'm intersing only in this last, the book was a little delusion. Nothing to say against Dott. Koopowitz, he's a gigant in the Slipper-knowledge  !!
