I wonder what the diffrence is between Phrag. caudatum var. giganteum, Phrag. caudatum var. sanderianum and a regular Phrag. caudatum?
Does someone have photos so I can compare?

Never heard of Var sanderianum...I read somewhere that the Var giganteum grows larger than the regular caudatum...please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think your right Nick. Isn't sanderae lighter in color?

These are all population deviations within Phrag caudatum. The name var. giganteum obviously refers to a large version, the var. sanderae is the light colored version and then you have the typical version. This species is spread over a good sized area and this leads to a lot of variation. Of course, all phrag species with long petals have at some time been included within Phrag caudatum, then split out by taxonomists.

as a hobby grower sometimes we have to accept what we have -in the 90's I collected several different ones the labels said "caudatum "but as the years have gone bye -growth is different on some have flowered some haven't I have one little one that flowered on a single growth it's petals were over 3' long it was so great to see - then i have another which i was told was an old var. sanderae its plant growth is large but the petals didn't come close to my little one -we now also deal with the new line bred ones - so i have resigned myself to enjoy the plants i have with their attached tags - it is the plant which gives so much enjoyment watching it unfold day by day .
The gianteum i have came from Pura-flora they are still small -time will tell the differences
in the meantime good growing and flowering
