Someone has observed that a bud of Paphiopedilum does not emit flower if the previous bud has not flourished?
To someone has flourished him a bud without him have flourished the previous one?
It seems asks foolish but I observe years ago this theme and I have not arrived at a conclusion

Hi Pere,
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "flourished", I'm afraid. Do you mean a good blooming? I think there are many reasons why blooming might not be perfect, light being the first that comes to mind. For example, a multifloral Paph w/ inadequate light may only produce one or two flowers, where one with adequate light may produce a few more, depending on the species/hybrid. As I understand it, thought I am very much NOT an expert.

Can you elaborate?

I think the question is, will a sequential paph generate a successful bloom if the previous bloom has failed..... sure can't answer that myself as I have only had my 6 little spicerianums for a couple of weeks and that is my first experience with paph culture :D

In my experience answer yes - First bloom can be attacked by aphids you see them get rid of aphids second 3rd 4th bloom are o.k
This sometimes happens with Phrags as well
you also can get good first bloom bad second good 3rd

You also can in some of the parvi and bracky paph s blooms get squashed in sheath first one out can be dented and distorted but the second one perfect this happened with Armeni White of mine .
Heat here is another reason first flower will be shrivelled tempt changes a next one O K .
Don't ever cut a spike if fist flower fails . the only time I cut off spikes is when all flowers are deformed .or get water in and rots .
hope this helps Billie
