Emydura October 23rd, 2007, 03:17 PM Looking good. Where did you buy them from?
David
bench72 October 23rd, 2007, 05:09 PM Nice selection Darren! I've got a couple of the same crosses from Ezi-gro Orchids, WA. The tags are a giveaway ;)
Bolero October 23rd, 2007, 07:30 PM Yep got them from Ezi-gro. I'm impressed with the size of the plants for the price.
I will be ordering more from them at some point as a result. I have seen smaller plants going on EBay for higher prices so this seems to be the more economical way to go.
;-)
Paphy57 October 23rd, 2007, 07:40 PM Nice picks! I soooo want that mic x viet!!
Emydura October 23rd, 2007, 09:52 PM How do you order plants from Ezi-gro Orchids? I've never seen a catalogue. They haven't updated their website for years. How do you know what they have available?
My only experience with Ezi-gro wasn't a good one. Paid a lot of money for a large Michael Koopowitz that basically didn't have a root on it. I should have returned it. The plant itself just went backwards from there.

This is the second order I have received from them and they've always had good root systems. The last order was Phrags and they were extremely healthy.
As for ordering? Just write to them they'll let you know what they have available. It would be good if they updated their website and had an ordering system on there but all you can do is let them know what sorts of things you are interested in and they will respond and let you know what they have available.
PaulS October 24th, 2007, 06:58 AM I have often wondered about WA. You can send plants out of WA alright, but am I right in thinking getting plants into WA is as bad as it is here in NZ? Apart from flasks I wouldn't bother here, it's too expensive and difficult.
bench72 October 24th, 2007, 07:13 AM David, I would probably talk to Kevin from Ezi-gro about that MK. He's a reasonable guy and maybe you can work something out. My experiences have all been great when dealing with Ezi-gro and I have purchased a fair amount of my collection from there. Also, it helps with them attending a couple of the major orchid fairs around the East Coast, ie Mingara, Southern Spectacular @ Sharkies, and one of the Qld shows as well. As Darren said, you can send him a list of what you want and rather than having it sent over and if you can wait until one of the shows, then you can inspect the plants before purchase.

Thanks Tim. Probably a bit late to do anything about the MK now. It was a few years ago. But I will have to look at ordering plants from him in the future. There aren't a lot of alternatives.

Yes, you are correct. Poor old West Australians (and Tasmanians) have it a bit tough. They might as well be in another country.

I don't really understand it when it comes to orchids..........it's not like any new diseases or problems would be introduced by them. Very strange that they are so restrictive.
bench72 October 24th, 2007, 05:36 PM I just heard around the grapevine at the AQIS office that there is this orchid.. it is devastating the wild flower populations of WA by competing with the terrestrials like the Caladenias etc etc... umm... I think it might be.... umm... Paph sanderianum!
:p

They all look great, the one that's unpotted is massive and needs a large pot to grow in. That's fine but I worry about the middle of the pot staying wet too long. What do you think? It's probably close to 12 inches across.
bench72 October 26th, 2007, 07:27 AM Wow, looks like a couple of nice minis there... can't wait till you post a pic of that Orpetti x Mini Purple!
the alba walkeriana looks sweet... I guess you can minimise the issue of the potting mix staying wet too long by using a flat pot...
PaulS October 26th, 2007, 06:14 PM You could try a small trough. I have a Schomburgkia that grows in a straight line and when the time comes I think I'll try it in a trough.
Bolero October 26th, 2007, 08:12 PM I do have a squat pot but it still seems quite big. I was considering using bark but now I think that might be a bad idea so I am back at CHC. I might cut some of the back bulbs off, there are two new growths coming out at the front and see if that makes it easier to manage.
Thanks for the nice comments to everyone.
