View Full Version : The genus Tainia
Kev June 23rd, 2005, 08:03 PM I'm curious if there is anyone out here who grows any of the Tainia species? If so, I would love to here your experience with these. A couple of years ago I received a very tiny division of Tainia sessilifolia in very poor shape. It has recovered and is growing nicely, but I still haven't seen any blooms. That may be coming now that it's of decent size.
These don't seem to common although I have seen a few of the other species for sale.
So, does anyone else have any of these? How do you grow them - light, temps, water, growing mix, etc. If you have any pictures of your plant in bloom that would be very nice to see. Thanks.
Kevin
Paphgirl June 24th, 2005, 10:31 PM Sorry, Kev, no clue. Nice to see you around again, though....where ya been? :poke:
Kev June 25th, 2005, 02:47 PM Hi Heather
I had a feeling this was going to be a long shot, but you never know. I was hanging out on one of those other places. Now, kind of checking you guys out.
I really like what these pups look like in the photos. I hope the one I have is a keeper. I couldn't find a single photo anywhere. Heck, I could only find one reference to the plant.

TADD June 25th, 2005, 07:35 PM Kev, did anything show up on google culture wise? I will have to check a few of my books, and let you know!
Kev June 25th, 2005, 07:57 PM If you do a Google of Tainia sessilifolia, you only find one or two references to the plant - no info, no pictures.
In one of those it did mention an article in Curtis's Botanical Magazine Feb. 2003 saying that this plant has been moved to the genus Eria. You have to pay something like $38 to read the article online. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
When you Google Eria sessilifolia, you only find mention of the above article.

Park Bear June 27th, 2005, 10:28 AM I found some info on Jay's
http://www.orchidspecies.com/
Kev June 27th, 2005, 11:12 AM Can you tell me where on Jay's you found something? I did look there under Eria and Tainia and didn't see anything about sessilifolia. Unless it's just staring me in the face and I can't see it.?

Park Bear June 27th, 2005, 11:25 AM scoll down to the Alphabetical Species Search and on the far right side is the link for T-Z and then scoll down to the Tainia listing
Kev June 27th, 2005, 01:14 PM OK, I still don't know what I am missing. I have read all the info there at least ten times and still can not see any mention of sessilifolia. Other species are mentioned, but not this one. At least I can not find it.
Thanks anyway. I'll look again later.
Park Bear June 28th, 2005, 08:40 AM I wasn't looking for sessilifolia, I was just listing it because of your first post about any info for Tainia species. Sorry for the confusion
