OK. Heres for all the chemists out there. I had my water checked and found out that the sodium is 50 ppm. Does that sound OK for phrags and most orchids?

There are other salts besides sodium that are a problem.

Did you get a TDS (total dissolved solids) number, or conductivity?

I like to watch the conductivity values, and find that conductivity values of less than 200 umhos/cm (a couple of different unit possibilities) are good for orchids.

If your water had only 50 ppm of Na, and about 75 ppm of Cl to go with it, that would probably be just fine too.

But if you water also had 200 ppm of Ca, and a bunch more sulfate and chloride then your water may be getting too crusty for orchids.

Need more info

I can see you know your stuff. A couple of these are not listed on the water quality report. Maybe you can let me know what else I should be looking at. Thanks

The easy stuff to get is either TDS or conductivity.

These are both gross assessments of the total salt load in your water.
