I noticed that I've never seen any hybrid X self, Its always a remake from the original parents. Is there any reason for this?

Is there any reason for this? orchidlover September 8th, 2007, 04:22 PM That is a good question! I too would like to know the answer to that. paphreek September 8th, 2007, 05:06 PM Selfings and sib crosses of hybrids are sometimes done, but not that often. A good example is Paph Hellas. The 'Westonbirt' cultivar is from the original cross. Hellas 'Sunset', however, is an F2 generation Hellas and 'La Tierra Buena Sunset' is a third generation Hellas, or an F3. I just saw a listing of F4 Hellas seedlings for sale. Generally, when you see a cross advertised as being made from the original parents, it's because the cross was particularly good and that information will help sell the new seedlings. amber September 9th, 2007, 12:14 AM thanks for the answer. orchidlover September 9th, 2007, 08:57 AM Thanks!!!! |
