Dick Clements was a retired Pathologist from Monee, Illinois, who owned Birchwood Orchids. He died at seventy years of age in May, 1990, of a massive heart attack while repairing his greenhouse cooling system. Dr. Clements had one of the finest slipper orchid collections in the U.S. at that time, and also had a great deal of inyerest in slipper orchid taxonomy. Fox Valley purchased Birchwood Orchids stock plants from his estate soon after his death, and we still use many of his plants in our own breeding program. Anything you find with the `Birchwood' or `Liisa' (his dog) clonal name can be traced back to Dick's own breeding program. Hope this helps.......

Interesting info. I love learning these interesting little tidbits about our orchids.

I also have some 'Birchwood' tags on my orchids. My schlimii 'Birchwood' is one of my favorites.
