So I have this flower that I think is wonderful. It's positive traits seem to be color, sequential flowering, ease of cultivation, and presentation. I would like to improve its form (it is cupped) and size (it's NS=6.7 cm). I have considered various Brachypetalum, Parvisepalum, and Cochlopetalum species and hybrids. What would you guys suggest? Can you do me a favor and try to explain your reasoning?

Here is the flower:

My very first thought - Paphioland's Giant Stone! It's flat, it's big! Could be interesting??
My next thought would be a Ron Williamson. I'm not sure if that whould open it up and I don't know how the size compares but you would be staying in the same type & results should be easier to predict.
I'm sure there will be others but those are the first 2 to pop in my head at this hour!

I think emersonii, or maybe a primary with emersonii as a parent (a fat Joyce Hasegawa?). Emersonii seems to often increase size, and I think that it would also fill out the flower and flatten it.

If you want to try for a fuller flower, you can have pollen from my Jack Tonkin (I posted the photo a couple of days ago).

Like Teresa, I was also thinking of emersonii for larger size flower and even maybe fragrance as well.

Decisions, decisions! Do you want to keep the sequential flowering? It seems you would need to stay in that type - prim x parvi X's. I like the suggestions by Teresa & Kim but which direction do you want to take? It more than likely would take 2-3 generations to get your end result unless you could find that middle stepping stone. Wossner Greyimic is rather nice too.

I suggest a nice delenatii for color. What about a philippinense for the multifloral lovers?

I had this same discussion a couple of month's ago with a friend of mine, although it was a bit more restrictive because it was limited to what she had in bloom at the time or could easily get in bloom. Her goal was to stay as much "Nimit-like" as possible since she likes Nimit a lot. Unfortunately for me, I don't know anything about the breeding proclivities of the various Paph species and hybrids, but this didn't stop me from making suggestions!

Her initial thought was (Nimit x Pinocchio), which I was against on the grounds that it would end up looking much more like Pinocchio than Nimit. A secondary goal was to increase the flower count so I suggested a multifloral like Prime Child, but she doesn't care for rothschildianum and she didn't think much of using Henrietta Fujiwara (which I rather like).

My final suggestion was to use a "vertical" flower like Golddollar, mainly because I like such "vertical" flowers and I'm completed addicted to yellow! This would basically swap the 25% glaucophyllum of her original idea (Nimit x Pinocchio) for armenicaum: it shouldn't be too "brachy"-like or too "rothschilianum"-like, and Golddollar in bud or bloom were easy to come by at that time. Perhaps those of you who know the breeding proclivities of Paphs will poo-poo this idea, but based upon the percentage of species in the proposed hybrid I like the possibilites.

Micranthum! You'll get a nice big pouch with that!!
Sorry! I think everything should be crossed with micranthum! LOL!

Definitly a emersonii hybrid if you go the emersonii way. I personally like emersonii x's better than pure emersonii.

Hmm...micranthum's colors and large pouch would make a nice cross!

OK - emersonii & micranthum are nice suggestions but if he wants to keep EASE of flowering, would those be good choices?
I would think a hybrid of either that has ease of flowering might be a better choice.
