I just won this seedling on ebay...I bid as a joke as I really have no space for Sorcerer's Apprentice. I never expected to win it, but such is life. meanwhile, I'm not convinced it is a Sorcerer's Apprentice. The longest leaf is 30 cm and the width is only 1.5 cm for the entire length. The second shoot is along a rhizone about 2 cm away from the main growth. Although a seedling, it seems to me the leaves should be wider. I'm thinking it might be a species or hybrid involving the subgenus Himantopetalum. What do the more experienced growers think?

What size pot is that?
It could be Sorcer's Apprentice, leaf width can come at different growth stages.

It looks nothing like a SA to me especially with a new growth, size of the plant, size and shape of the leaves, that tells me it is not a SA.

The pot is 3.5"

I don't think it is SA either. I guess you will have to wait and find out!!

I have never seen such a tiny SA before.

It does look too small to be a SA but what do I know...

It's pretty difficult to decipher whether it is the correct plant or not without blooming it. There is variation within each cross, and depending upon growing conditions the growth can be compact or leggy. I would defer judgement until it blooms.

Based on its size, blooming will be no time soon! I might have to build a piece onto the house by then!

They are like people, they all start out like that. With my budget, a lot of mine do. Thankfully they grow, especially phrags.

That plant has a second new growth sprout so I'm assuming it is a mature plant.

That ebay vendor just listed a SA X piercei...I wonder if that's what I got by mistake? Anyway, time will tell.

That sounds more like it and that explains why the plant has narrow leaves. Keep us posted and let us know what it turns out to be.

I agree with what Peter said. It looks like you got the wrong plant.

just saw this thread. my SA has 4-5 cm wide leaves. I guess you're up for a surprise.
