View Full Version : Phrag pests?

One of the good things about phrags seems to be they tend to remain relatively pest free. I'm sure there has to be some sort of pest that will attack them though. Is there anything I need to be on the lookout for? Mites, thrips, etc.? Also, what are the warning signs for each pest?

Thanks for any info,

I too find my Phrags relatively free of pests except for my long petalled Phrag species because they are very prone to bacterial rot especially during summer, so I'm always keeping any eye on them.

I'll have to check mine frequently when I get it!

I don't think I've ever had a mealy bug on a phrag. I hope those are not famous last words! The rot at the base, is what I'd have to go with. I diluted Dragon's Blood in water & sprayed anything that looked suspicious & added an extra fan!

Mealy bugs sometimes feast on my Phrag buds and spikes but never the whole plants like they do their number on my Paphs.

I wonder if mealies don't like the taste of Phrag leaves?

besides mealies, aphids can also be a problem on developing buds but otherwise Phrags seem to be pretty pest free. Oh, there are also the common medium pests, if grown outdoors, pill bugs, and slugs, snails, ect. can attack plants.

 Plants I find mealies on, have thicker, fleshy leaves - so more to suck on than those thin leaved phrags!

I have mealies in my house, but not the GH. They really like amaryllis! And those have fat leaves!!
