View Full Version : What's Blooming in YOUR Collection?
Paphgirl March 7th, 2005, 03:55 PM I had an exciting weekend, and found three of my plants are in sheath, so, I thought it might be fun to hear what's blooming, or getting ready to from everyone.
Paphs:
hirsutissimum var. esquirolei (in spike)
tigrinum (in sheath)
moquettianum (fourth or fifth bloom)
primulinum var. flavum (second bloom)
Lebaudyanum (in sheath)

(Makuli-Curtisii) Maudiae x Maudiae "Napa Valley" HCC/AOS (first bloom opening - I just bought this last week for $10 from TJ's which I would never do generally, but was amused and I like to bring some things that I don't care much about into work. It was in potting soil!)
Phrags:
wallisii (in sheath)
Beverly Fischer (bought in bud, 5th bud maturing)
St. Peter (first rebloom)

Both Julis and roeb will be ready to be photographed in a couple of days, I guess. The last buds are not fully grown yet, so still waiting. My Paph St Swithin, PEOY, haynaldianum, laevigatum, lowii, philippinense, richardianum, rothschildianum, stonei, dianthum, Phrag Grande and richteri are all showing signs of spiking. Yipee!!! :joy: Hopefully, they spike for me soon!

Would love to see photos! Julius has got to be one of my very favorite hybrids.
zotcat March 23rd, 2005, 06:41 AM Heather, I’m excited for you regarding the tigrinum especially.
In the way of paphs, my roebelinii has been in bloom for awhile—on its way out, actually. It was its first blooming and it has three, nicely formed flowers—apparently the best I can do with my Michigan winter light. Paph. bellatulum, Paph. hainanense, Paph. Sugar Suite are in large bud or bloom and a few others in sheath.
Almost all of my phals are either in bloom or getting ready to be. I’m most looking forward to seeing fasciata and corningiana for the first time. Other than that, two aerangis are in spike, some catt-types and my B. grandiflora is in full-bloom and perfuming my apartment wonderfully at night. Oh, my Ascda. Su-Fun Beauty is still in bloom, too (the flowers last forever and it blooms five times a year for me, sometimes with double spikes.) and Vasco. Red Yen has some spikes.

TADD June 1st, 2005, 07:58 AM Ernie how long have you been growing? If not long... wait you have a Catt and a Phrag blooming! That's better than my Catts and Phrag.!
Ernie June 1st, 2005, 10:32 AM I've been growing off and on for over 25 years Tadd, problem was I had to keep moving around at Uncle Sam's insistence and couldn't stay anywhere longer than 4-5 years at once. It seriously bites rocks to be addicted and wind up having to give them all away every few years. Well, I take solace in the fact that they gave pleasure to the happy recipients.
I'm finally retired and have NO plans of being repotted again and slowly rebuilding my collection as well as *sigh* a greenhouse.

Littlefrog June 1st, 2005, 04:00 PM I have a good idea of what is blooming in the greenhouse, but I can't imagine finding the time to write it all down... You guys are way too organized.
7 or 8 different minicatt clones (several of each).
Couple dozen reed stem epidendrums -all colors. Some are quite nice - Really happy with those.
half a dozen standard cattleyas (pink, or semi-alba)
some vandaceous stuff
Oncidinae - several Brs. Rex or Eternal Wind, Onc. isthmii (5 or 6) and a few dozen of other miscellanany
A whole lotta phals (100+). Not sure why they are blooming so late. I need to sacrifice some spikes if I want flowers next year.
Phrags:
Cape Sunset (pollinated!)
Don Wimber "Skybear" AM/AOS (pollinated!)
besseae "Littlefrog Ember" (pollinated and pollinator) - she gets around
Ecua-bess
2 or three Paul Eugene Conroy
some others
Paphs:
Puppentanz
Isabel Booth (quite nice, too bad I mucked up the spike)
moquettianum (x2)
bunch of moquettianum hybrids (a dozen maybe)
A few Maudiae types, but I cut 75 to 100 spikes and blooms last week - pumping them up for show/sales season
My lemon tree is in bloom... Does that count? It is itty-bitty.
